Class Description:
The goal of Great Book I & II is to instill in students the habits of mind that characterize a self-reliant thinker, reader, and learner. We operate on the idea that everyone can read and understand excellent literature, literature that engages the whole person, the imagination, and the intellect. In Great Books I & II we draw on literature from many genres, time periods, and cultures, we emphasize writing as an essential way to communicate ideas in a persuasive, expository, literary, and expressive manner. Using the Shared Inquiry method we will draw on the language, experiences, strategies, and interests that students bring to school, while developing each students writing and speaking voice.
